Here are some of the things I like about Richmond (in no particular order):
- my neighbors are friendly and kind
- the weather is perfect;
- it gets cleaner and safer every year
- from my house I can walk to three places for a tasty lunch for less than $10 (sign up for my mailing list for recommendations)
- we have rent control, a citizen's police review commission, and a balanced budget
- thousands of first-generation Americans live here
- thousands of third- and fourth-generation Richmonders live here
- there is a seed library at the Richmond Public Library Main Branch
- taking screen printing classes at the Richmond Art Center
- new farmers markets
- old pictures of flower farms, shipyard workers, the once-vibrant downtown
- Cinco de Mayo, Pride and Juneteenth parades
Over the years, I've worked to make Richmond a better place to live. I've been part of local campaigns to:
- stop coal transport through Richmond
- increase census participation and maximize federal money for the city
- teach people in need how to apply for COVID rental relief money
- require the full cleanup of the toxic AstraZeneca site
- improve rent control protections (Yes on P)
- make large corporations pay their fair share of taxes (Yes on U)
- bring instant runoff voting to Richmond elections
- return public events to the city-owned Craneway Pavilion
